The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested the first suspect in connection with an ongoing investigation into a 320-kilogram methamphetamine shipment intercepted in Australia.

According to NACOC, the illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of US$296 million, were traced to a storage facility in Girraween, Australia, in April 2026. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to identify and dismantle the criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for transporting and diverting the record-breaking consignment.

The Commission disclosed that investigators are working closely with international law enforcement partners to track down other suspects believed to be linked to a wider transnational drug trafficking network operating across multiple jurisdictions.

NACOC described the arrest as a pivotal milestone in the coordinated international operation aimed at disrupting sophisticated narcotics trafficking organisations and strengthening efforts to combat cross-border drug crime.

The Commission noted that intelligence gathered from the arrest is expected to play a crucial role in identifying and apprehending additional members of the criminal network.

“NACOC remains committed to working with international partners to safeguard the region from the threat posed by large-scale drug trafficking organisations,” the Commission said in a statement.

Authorities added that intelligence-led operations are ongoing and that further arrests are expected as investigations continue.

The statement was signed by PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at the Narcotics Control Commission.
