The Ga South Municipal Assembly has conducted a comprehensive clean-up exercise across the Galilea Market, Yam Market, Tilapia Market, and adjoining communities as part of efforts to enhance environmental sanitation, protect public health, and promote a cleaner municipality.
The exercise brought together Assembly staff, market leaders, traders, Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, traditional authorities, and residents, who worked collectively to clear refuse, sweep streets, and remove accumulated waste from the markets and surrounding areas.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, the initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to maintain a clean, healthy, and flood-resilient municipality, particularly during the rainy season when poor sanitation increases the risk of flooding and disease outbreaks.
He noted that clean surroundings not only improve the health and well-being of residents but also create a safer and more conducive environment for commerce and other economic activities.

Hon. Ocansey expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including market women and men, volunteers, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, and community residents, for their commitment and active participation in the exercise.
He further urged traders and residents to sustain the gains made by adopting responsible waste disposal practices, avoiding littering, and supporting routine sanitation activities.
“The responsibility of keeping Ga South clean rests with all of us. Through collective action and sustained commitment, we can build one of the cleanest, healthiest, and most environmentally responsible municipalities in Ghana,” he stated.
The Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to implementing regular sanitation initiatives as part of ongoing efforts to improve public health, strengthen environmental resilience, and enhance the quality of life for residents across the municipality.
