Interior Minister Urges Stronger Command Synergy at Ghana Immigration Service Regional Commanders’ Conference

Accra, July 6, 2026 – The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on Regional and Sector Commanders of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to strengthen coordination, professionalism, and leadership in responding to emerging migration and national security challenges.

Speaking at the opening of the Ghana Immigration Service Regional Commanders’ Conference held at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Odorkor, the Minister stressed that no security institution can effectively operate in isolation. He emphasized that enhanced command synergy is essential to achieving operational efficiency, institutional discipline, accountability, and sustainable growth.

Addressing participants, Hon. Muntaka described the conference theme, “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth,” as timely, citing the increasing threats posed by irregular migration, human trafficking, transnational organized crime, terrorism, and cyber-enabled criminal activities.

The Interior Minister commended the Comptroller-General of Immigration and the GIS Management for prioritizing staff welfare, logistics enhancement, and infrastructure development, noting that these investments are fundamental to building a highly motivated and well-equipped workforce.

He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Ghana Immigration Service through improved logistics, enhanced working conditions, and sustained institutional support. He also expressed appreciation to officers and personnel of the Service for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting Ghana’s borders and contributing to national peace and security.

Hon. Muntaka further urged Commanders to demonstrate integrity, fairness, and discipline in the discharge of their duties while using the conference as an opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen collaboration, and develop practical solutions to improve the Service’s effectiveness.

The three-day conference will feature presentations on strategic leadership, command and control, strategic management and finance, disciplinary procedures under L.I. 2245, and 360-degree leadership, all aimed at enhancing the leadership capacity of Commanders across the country.

In his welcome address, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, Comptroller-General of Immigration, underscored the importance of discipline as the foundation of operational success. He noted that Regional and Sector Commanders play a critical role in ensuring effective border management, maintaining institutional standards, and advancing the strategic objectives of the Ghana Immigration Service.
