The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) Bono East Regional Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has organized a health walk, awareness float, and inter-security games in Techiman to commemorate the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day).

The event brought together personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana National Ambulance Service, Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), Ghana Prisons Service, and other security agencies in the region.

The campaign, which featured a health walk through the principal streets of Techiman, aimed to promote healthy living, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and educate the public on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Participants carried anti-drug placards while engaging residents on the harmful effects of substance abuse.

Addressing participants, Bono East Regional Commander of NACOC, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, stressed that combating illicit drugs requires a collective effort. She urged the public to view drug addiction as a health condition requiring counseling, treatment, and rehabilitation rather than stigma, encouraging those struggling with substance use to seek support from NACOC’s Counselling Unit.

She noted that NACOC has intensified public education through radio discussions and community outreach programmes ahead of this year’s World Drug Day.

The activities concluded with inter-security games at Ameyaw Kumfi Park, where the Ghana National Ambulance Service emerged overall winner after excelling in various team-building competitions.

Held under the 2026 World Drug Day theme, “The World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” the programme officially launched the Bono East Regional Command’s activities leading to the main commemoration, with educational seminars and a community durbar scheduled in the coming weeks.

NACOC expressed appreciation to all participating security agencies and stakeholders for supporting efforts to build safer, healthier, and drug-free communities across the Bono East Region.
