65 PWDs in Fanteakwa South Receive Start-Up Support

Sixty-five Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region have received start-up capital and equipment to establish and expand their businesses.

The support was provided by the Fanteakwa South District Assembly through the legally allocated PWD share of the District Assemblies Common Fund.

The initiative, spearheaded by the District Chief Executive, Mrs. Mercy Korang, seeks to empower beneficiaries with the necessary resources to become economically independent and improve their livelihoods.

The beneficiaries received a variety of items based on their individual needs and business proposals. These included chest deep freezers, industrial and manual sewing machines, ovens, fufu pounding machines, pepper grinding machines, and wheelchairs. Some beneficiaries also received cash to support the establishment of their businesses.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director of the Fanteakwa South District Social Welfare Department, Mr. Daniel Ayariga, said the Assembly would continue to distribute customised tools and equipment based on individual applications.

He explained that the programme was designed to promote economic independence among PWDs while ensuring their active participation and inclusion in society.

Mr. Ayariga encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support provided and work towards building sustainable businesses that would improve their livelihoods.

The initiative forms part of efforts by the Fanteakwa South District Assembly to promote social inclusion, economic empowerment and improved living conditions for Persons with Disabilities in the district.
