Ballon d’Or 2026, Kane Retains Top Spot as Yamal and Mbappé Keep Pace

The 2026 Ballon d’Or race has continued to generate interest following goals from Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé during the latest international fixtures.

Kane found the back of the net for England against Spain at Wembley, but his effort could not prevent the Three Lions from suffering a 3-2 defeat. The Bayern Munich forward also missed a penalty as Spain completed a comeback victory, according to Livescore.

Yamal also made his mark in the encounter, scoring for Spain and further strengthening his case among the leading contenders for the prestigious individual award.

Meanwhile, Mbappé scored the only goal of the game as France defeated Türkiye 1-0 on September 25. The Real Madrid attacker, however, was substituted after sustaining a knee injury, according to beIN Sports.

Kane remains first in latest rankings

Despite England’s loss to Spain, Kane continues to occupy the top position in the latest unofficial 2026 Ballon d’Or rankings.

Yamal is currently second, while Mbappé sits in third following his latest international goal. However, with several months of club football still remaining, the standings could change considerably before the award is decided.

Kane’s position is largely linked to his impressive goalscoring output for both Bayern Munich and England.

The latest Polymarket figures put Kane’s market-implied probability at 56%, followed by Yamal on 27% and Mbappé on 7%.

These percentages represent betting-market expectations rather than official Ballon d’Or voting results.

Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, is currently fourth, with Lionel Messi in fifth. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is ranked ninth despite continuing to produce goals at a prolific rate.

Kane’s current market advantage over Yamal stands at more than 25 percentage points, highlighting the difference in their present betting-market projections as the 2026 Ballon d’Or race enters another stage.
