Court issues warrant authorising EOCO to arrest Manhyia South MP

An Accra High Court has granted the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) a warrant to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The order was issued after EOCO applied to the court, arguing that its investigators had made reasonable efforts to secure the MP’s voluntary cooperation but had been unsuccessful.

EOCO also expressed concerns that documents relevant to its investigation could be hidden, altered or destroyed. It therefore sought permission to arrest the MP and search for and seize documents connected to the case.

The latest development comes a week after EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.

EOCO later explained that the attempted arrest was part of an ongoing investigation and followed two invitations sent to the MP in February 2026.

However, Mr Baffour Awuah has challenged EOCO’s account. According to him, the investigation relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which was a client of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.

He said he referred EOCO’s February invitation to the Clerk to Parliament, after which a representative of the law firm appeared before investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30. The representative, he said, provided the requested information, including a written statement.

The investigation has also drawn attention to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and Equity Savings and Loans.

Mr Baffour Awuah has explained that his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans. He said the amount, including accumulated interest, later increased to approximately GH¢14 million before the parties reached a negotiated settlement.

EOCO has not released the full details of the investigation.

With the latest court order, EOCO now has judicial authority to arrest the MP and conduct the search and seizure of documents as part of its ongoing investigations.
