Fanteakwa South DCE Cuts Sod for Construction of 24-Hour Market

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Fanteakwa South, Hon. Mercy Korang, has cut sod for the commencement of a 24-hour market project in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.

The project is located near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office along the Accra-Kumasi Highway and is expected to provide a modern commercial facility to support economic activities within the district.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Mercy Korang expressed her appreciation to the traditional leaders, particularly Osaberima Out Darko IV, Chief of Osino, and Osaberima Barif Sarpong Kumakuma, Chief of Akyem Nsutam, for releasing the vast tract of land for the government to undertake the project.

The DCE also commended President John Dramani Mahama for the vision to establish ultramodern 24-hour markets across the country, saying the project forms part of the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made ahead of the 2024 general elections.

According to Hon. Mercy Korang, the project has been awarded to Atagiri Construction Company.
She explained that the facility will comprise lockable shops, a police station, fire service station, school, pharmacy, gymnasium and a Women’s Development Bank, among other facilities.

The DCE said the establishment of the 24-hour market would help boost economic activities in the district and create opportunities for residents and businesses in surrounding communities.

She further disclosed that Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras would be installed throughout the market to enhance security, monitoring and the safety of traders and customers.

The Chief Executive Officer of Atagiri Construction Company, Mr. Osman Awudu, assured stakeholders that the contractor was committed to completing the project within the shortest possible time.

He said although the project was initially expected to be completed within three years, funding would not be a major challenge, allowing the company to target completion within one year and three months, or at most one year and six months.

The traditional leadership also praised the government for bringing the project to the district, describing it as an important development that would contribute to the socio-economic growth of Fanteakwa South.

They expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for what they described as the fulfilment of his commitment to provide development projects for communities across Ghana.

The project is expected to serve as an important commercial centre for Fanteakwa South and surrounding communities once completed.
