Ghana Jollof case, High Court denies bail to Salomey Awiti Baffoe

The High Court in Accra has rejected a bail application filed on behalf of Salomey Awiti Baffoe, the 40-year-old Senior Nursing Officer from Techiman facing charges over the controversial “Ghana Jollof” TikTok case.

The prosecution had opposed the bail request, maintaining that the accused remains relevant to ongoing investigations into the case.

In its ruling on Thursday, September 24, the court held that releasing Salomey Baffoe on bail at this stage could potentially interfere with cyber-related investigations being carried out by the police.

Her lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, had appealed to the court to grant his client bail, arguing that she is presumed innocent and therefore entitled to bail.

Counsel further submitted that the prosecution had not provided adequate reasons to justify keeping his client in custody and had failed to establish sufficient grounds for refusing the bail application.

The court, however, declined the request and ordered the Republic to speed up its investigations.

Salomey Awiti Baffoe will remain in custody until September 30, when she is expected to appear before the court again.

She has been charged with abetting the publication of false news in connection with the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, which has been accused of publishing false information and incendiary comments against the government.
