Jordan Ayew Nears Blackburn Rovers Move on Free Transfer

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew is reportedly close to joining Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer as the Championship club seeks to strengthen its attacking options.

The 34-year-old forward became a free agent following his departure from Leicester City after the club’s relegation from the Championship.

According to reports from GhanaSoccerNet, Ayew is in talks with Blackburn, with the club keen to add his experience and versatility to its forward line.

Ayew made 42 Championship appearances for Leicester last season, scoring six goals and providing three assists. He started 24 of those games despite Leicester’s challenging campaign.

The Ghana international can play as a central striker or operate from either wing, giving Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray additional options in attack.

Ayew also brings extensive experience of English football, having previously played for Crystal Palace, Swansea City and Aston Villa in the Premier League. He began his European career with Marseille in France before establishing a lengthy career in England.

Blackburn’s interest comes amid concerns over their limited attacking options, with several players currently sidelined through injury. The club had attempted to strengthen before the transfer window closed but failed to complete some of its preferred deals, leading them to explore the free-agent market.

Rovers have also endured an inconsistent start to the season. After collecting four points from their opening two matches, Blackburn have managed just one draw and two defeats in their subsequent games.

Their latest setback came on Saturday, September 5, when they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Preston, increasing the pressure on the club to strengthen the squad.

A move to Ewood Park would allow Ayew to remain in the Championship and continue playing in a division where he made a significant number of appearances last season.

For Blackburn, securing the experienced Ghanaian could provide a timely boost to their attacking options as they look to improve their early-season form.
