Ghana has secured hosting rights for the 2028 Olympic Boxing African Qualification Tournament, scheduled for August 2027.This follows a successful bid application by the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
Paulo Ferreira, the World Boxing Director of Events, formally informed the Ghana Boxing Federation of the decision on Tuesday, October 21, 2026, of the decision.
Subsequent to this, a ‘‘Host City Agreement’’ will be formalized between the International Olympic Committee and Ghana.
The Host City Agreement is a binding legal contract between the IOC and a selected city that hosts its tournament.

For the most part, the agreement clearly spells out all local operating expenses, including public security, police escorts, medical services, and specialized infrastructure upgrades and whose responsibility it is.
In the past, the IOC (and in the case of football, FIFA) has retained all major commercial revenues—including broadcast rights, ticket sales, and official sponsorships—while host cities receive no direct share of those earnings.
For Ghana’s part, the government, through the Ministry for Sports and Recreation and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, will assume all associated costs, including intra-and inter-city transportation, accommodation arrangements, existing boxing infrastructure requirements, etc.
However, the operational support and expertise will come from the Ghana Boxing Federation.
A tentative date of August 13–22, 2027, has been set for the tournament.
