The Queenmother of Nsuapemso, Obaapayin Kyerewaa I, has appealed to the government and security authorities to take immediate steps to restore peace and security at Nsuapemso and the Narawa mining site following a reported security operation at the site.
According to the Queenmother, residents have been living in fear following the arrival of a joint team of the Police, Military and National Security personnel at the Narawa mining site on October 1, 2026.
Speaking to the media, Obaapayin Kyerewaa I said gunshots were fired during the operation, creating fear and panic among residents, particularly women and children.
She said although no injuries were recorded, the presence of the security personnel, the reported clashes between soldiers and workers of the Narawa Company, as well as confrontations involving a task force or persons described as landguards, have created tension in the community.
The Queenmother said the situation is affecting peace and stability in Nsuapemso and surrounding communities and called on all parties to exercise restraint to prevent the situation from escalating.

Obaapayin Kyerewaa I also expressed concern about the benefits of mining activities to the local community. She said residents believe mining on their land has not brought sufficient benefits to them, while some promises made to the community remain unfulfilled.
She therefore appealed to the government, President John Dramani Mahama, the Fanteakwa South District Chief Executive, Hon. Mercy Korang, the Eastern Regional Minister and the various security agencies to intervene to ensure peace and protect the lives and property of residents of Nsuapemso and people working at the Narawa mining site.
The Queenmother urged the authorities to engage all stakeholders to resolve the underlying disagreements and find a peaceful and lasting solution to the situation.
