The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it has documented about 35 alleged scandals involving the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) since President John Dramani Mahama assumed office.

Member of Parliament for Akuapim North and former Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, disclosed this during an interview on  Tuesday, October 20.

He said the NPP has gathered what he described as sufficient information on alleged wrongdoing within the Mahama administration and intends to release details of the cases progressively ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Mr Awuku also commended Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for his work while in opposition, particularly his scrutiny of presidential travels and related expenditure.

“My brother Ablakwa did a good job in opposition; in fact, let me even salute him for that. He was able to give details of presidential travels; he was still able to give us quotations for travel per hour,” he said.

He, however, insisted that the NPP was equally prepared to scrutinise the current administration, arguing that the party’s decision to demand information from the government was backed by evidence already in its possession.

“The NPP has enough information; that is why we are asking the Minister to give us the information we have requested. The NPP has 35 of the scandals of the NDC. These would be rolled out from now till 2028,” he stated.

Mr Awuku further alleged that government appointees used some NDC regional executives as conduits to collect money in connection with what he described as the “World Cup scandals.”

“I can confidently tell you that today some NDC regional executives were the conduits appointees used to collect money for the World Cup scandals,” he alleged.

The Akuapim North MP did not provide further details of the alleged scandals during the interview but indicated that the NPP would release information on the cases in the coming months.

His comments come amid growing political exchanges between the NPP and NDC over alleged corruption, public expenditure and accountability under the Mahama administration.
