The former Egyptian footballer Mohamed Aboutrika lashed out at FIFA on Monday, accusing the organization of failing to penalize Israel following the organization’s decision to ban Russia from all international football events.

“Same sanctions should have been applied to Israel after their army was implicated in the slaughter of children and women in Palestine,” the three-time Africa Cup of Nations champion said in an interview with Quds News Network.

It is imperative that the decision to suspend Russian clubs and teams from all tournaments be followed by a ban on those linked with Israel, which has been murdering children and women in Palestine for years,” Aboutrika said. “You’re using double standards,” you say.

Following the Russian military intervention in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA have banned Russian teams.

In light of Israel’s continuous breaches of international law, the Palestinians pushed FIFA again and time again to take action. When it comes to political problems though, FIFA announced in 2016 that “in keeping with the basic concept outlined in its Statutes, (FIFA) must remain impartial.”
