Don’t Interfere In Church Business – Mahama tells Akufo-Addo

Former President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned government to back-off any plans to regulate activities of churches in the country.

His comment comes after President Nana Akufo-Addo dropped the latest hint that churches aquiring wealth could be taxed.

The President speaking at a synod of the Global Evangelical church at the University of Ghana, remarked that the church is becoming a pale shadow of what it used to be generations ago.

He observed that churches have shifted from charity to prosperity and said calls for churches and their leaders to be taxed are understandable.

But speaking to Adom News, President Mahama said it wil be suicidal for government to tax churches.

Rather, he suggested the Christian Council of Ghana, Ghana Pentecostal Council and Charismatic Council be allowed to deal with these charlatans.

John Mahama made this known at the dedication ceremony of the Ringway Gospel Center of the Assemblies of God Church at Osu in Accra.

Meanwhile, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Ghana, Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso admonished religious leaders, especially pastors, evangelists, prophets of God not to lead their flock astray but lead them to flourish in Christ.

The Ringway Assemblies of God Church started with 35 members in 1985, It can now boast of over 600 memberships.

Prominent among the membership is the former John Dramani Mahama, a former Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Mrs. Justice Georgina Theodora Woode and among others.

An Associate Pastor of the Ringway Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Benjamin Tetteh also thanked God and the entire membership for their contributions towards the church development.
