Residents and indegenes of Akyem Nsutam in the Fanteakwa south district in the eastern region, are likely to have a modern community library built for them free of charge as Non Governmental Organisations, NGOs who have teamed up to build and stock the modernised library visited the chief, Osabarima Baafi Sarpong Kumakuma and his elders on Friday 15th March 2019 at the Nsutam Chief palace.
Book Drop Ghana and Hive Earth are the separate non-governmental organizations that presented their representatives to visit the chief and his elders.
The founder and leader of Libreria Ghana and a member of Book Drop Ghana, Ms Sylvia Arthur revealed to the chief and the gathering that she saw a publication on Instagram from radiooneghana100.7fm somewhere last year where the chief of the area, Osabarima Baafi Sarpong Kumakuma was seeking for help in building a community library and she realised its a very good idea and can be a project for Book Drop Ghana.
“I saw the publication on Instagram on radio1Ghana that the chief in one of the communities is looking for help to build a library. So I contacted Hive Earth to help the community” Sylvia Arthur disclosed.
Hive Earth is also an NGO who build using our local methods. They use latrite and water but build to suit the demands of modern building and construction agencies. Their representatives, Kwame and Joelle also told the Chief and elders that they are ready to build the structure and what they would need from the chief and community is the parcel of land.
“Like Sylvia said, we build the house and they stock it. We are ready to build the house and the building will provide its own electricity because we will install wind turbines, solar and even water harvesting plant. What we need from you is the land”, Kwame said.
Kwame showed them samples of their projects and the chief and his elders were very happy and delighted for such a move as part of honouring their cooperate social responsibility.
Osabarima Baafi Sarpong Kumakuma and his elders thanked the radio station, Radio 1FM 100.7MHZ, the NGOs and assured them any parcel of land that befits such a project will be readily released to them as soon as possible. Without delay, he went to show them a portion of land and Hive Earth was also happy and agreed on building the library for them.
