At long last, the President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has clarified the air that the first Public University in the Eastern Region of Ghana will be in Somanya contrary to the speculations that he’s intended moving it to Bunso where he hails from.
The President said they have been misinformed and incited against him and his party as to the siting of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development where there is an ongoing speculations of President Akufo-Addo relocating the site from Somanya to Bunso.
He made this revelation in Somanya during his first day Visit in the 3 day visit to the Eastern Region when addressing a mob comprising of major Public Officials , Party faithfuls, Opinion Leaders and the Traditional Leaders of the area on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
He continued to say that there is only one University of Environment and Sustainable Development in Ghana and that will definitely be in Somanya. He therefore urged the gathering to pay deaf ears to the lies being peddled by his political opponents.
The President again said inasmuch as he hails from the Bunso area, that is not how he governs the nation. He is a president for all and not to Bunso only.
“there is only one University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region. It is the first public University in the Eastern region. It has only one Vice Chancellor, it has one administrative headquarters… all are being built in Somanya,” the President said.
He was very much hailed upon saying that but it didn’t end there so he added that he’s going according to the contract signed and will never deviate from it.
“the content of the agreement we had with the Italians was so good enough to provide us with 45 Million Euros does not allow me to tend this University to Bunso. It is obvious and i can not run away from that, I come from the area of Bunso, But i’ll not do that”, Nana Addo said.
He strongly assured them that come what may, the university will see its full operation at Somanya
