E/R: Asiedu For Saamang Assembly Member

A Member of the Eastern regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication team and a communication Director for Fanteakwa South constituency, Mr George Asiedu who is aspiring to be the Assembly member for Saamang Electoral Area in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region has outlined four major visions as to why he is contesting in the race, considering; unity, education, employment and the power of lobbying.

He disclosed this on Radio1 Susubiribi Morning show on Tuesday 8th January, 2019.

According to Mr. Asiedu there is no unity currently in Saaman because of some incidents that originated about ten to twelve years ago with respect to the mining sector that got some individuals to side up with some mining companies which is still going on.

He lamented that this has resulted in a low turnout of people in the community whenever there is a call for communal activities as it used to be in the past and has also brought down the enthusiasm that natives of the community put up when there is any event to raise fund for development in the community.

He added that though there is education in Saaman, it has not reached its peak as it is expected in this 21st century.

“I will also make it vital decision to introduce Non-formal education in the community to enable parents to give their grown up children that were not able to attain formal education from the basic  the opportunity to be able to learn to how to read, write and express themselves”, he said.

To those who make it the the Second cycle school, “I will again organize classes for those in the Senior High School (SHS) when they come home for vacation since we have our teachers in the training colleges and university. I will make it a point to create a fund that can support any child that is able to pass his or her WASSCE Exams to get an admission to the university. This will motivate them even if not all but part of their fees would be paid”, he noted

Mr. Asiedu again Claimed that in an ultra-modern mining company in Saaman the natives of Saaman working there are not even up to 5% meanwhile we claim to be living and sitting on money. I will discuss with the management of the company to give a quota to the Saaman community so that those that have interest in working in the mining sector will be recruited to enable them make a living.

He ended by stating that he is going to make it a point to bring development to Saaman community by lobbying at the assembly when he gets there because he is capable of that since he has lobbied for the community in the past.
