Green track, final year students to report to school today

Students on the green track, as well as final year students are expected to report to school today, Saturday, January 5, 2019 to commence the 2nd semester of the academic year.

“Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to remind all green track and final year students that the re-opening date for the second semester of the 2018/2019 academic year is Saturday, 5th January 2019,” a statement from the Ghana Education Service stated.

The statement said the early re-opening for final year students is to give them ample time to prepare towards the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The statement also said “students on the gold track who went for the Christmas break are also to report back to school to continue their first semester on the same January 2019.”

Meanwhile, all 2nd year and single track students are expected to resume for the 2nd semester on March 1, 2019.

“2nd semester for the gold track begins on the 11th of May 2019,” the statement added.

In an interview with the Head of Communication at the Free Senior High School Secretariat, Josberta Gyan Kwakye, he said this batch of students are less likely to face infrastructural challenges.

“Because of the space that the form two students have left in the school because they are on vacation, we don’t anticipate any form of congestion in the schools,” she added.

The double track system forms part of the free Senior High School programme (SHS) and is part of measures put in place by government to mitigate the effects of infrastructural constraints and have more students in school.

It began in September 2018 and saw students in the first batch, the Green Track, attending school for two months.

Those placed on the Gold track waited within the two months period and also started their academic year in November 2018 and vacated in December 2018.
